The GLS German Language School organizes several activities in Berlin every week, which take place after the German course and where you can explore Berlin together with other course participants.

In diesem Seminar wird die weltberühmte Berliner Clublandschaft von gestern und heute thematisiert. Sie zeigt die Entwicklung der Szene seit der Wende. Nach dem Mauerfall entstanden zahlreiche Clubs in leerstehenden Gebäuden, was Berlins Ruf als Zentrum der elektronischen Musik festigte. Gleichzeitig veränderte die Stadtentwicklung Berlins das Umfeld, indem Industriebrachen umgewandelt und gentrifiziert wurden, was sowohl Herausforderungen als auch neue Chancen für die Clubkultur brachte.

This seminar focuses on the world-famous Berlin club scene of yesterday and today. It shows the development of the scene since the fall of the Berlin Wall. After the fall of the Wall, numerous clubs sprang up in empty buildings, cementing Berlin's reputation as a centre of electronic music. At the same time, Berlin's urban development changed the environment by transforming and gentrifying industrial wastelands, creating both challenges and opportunities for club culture.

Das Nikolaiviertel ist Berlins erstes und somit ältestes Wohngebiet, das die Geschichte der Stadt auf eindrucksvolle Weise widerspiegelt. Mit seinen charmanten, engen Gassen und historischen Gebäuden lädt es ein, die Wurzeln Berlins zu entdecken. Im Museum Ephraim-Palais besuchen wir die faszinierende Ausstellung „BerlinZEIT – Die Stadt macht Geschichte!“, die die Entwicklung Berlins über die Jahrhunderte hinweg erzählt und einen einzigartigen Blick auf die historischen Ereignisse und Veränderungen bietet, die die Stadt geprägt haben.

The Nikolaiviertel is Berlin’s first and therefore oldest residential area, offering a remarkable glimpse into the city’s history. With its charming, narrow streets and historic buildings, it invites you to explore the roots of Berlin. In the Ephraim-Palais museum, we are visiting the captivating exhibition "BerlinZEIT – The City Makes History!", which tells the story of Berlin’s development over the centuries and offers a unique perspective on the historical events and transformations that have shaped the city.

„Urban Requiem“ hinterfragt die digitale Welt, in der wir leben, aber nicht wirklich existieren. Eine Performance, die uns auffordert, unsere Rolle im urbanen Algorithmus zu erkennen und die Skripte zu überdenken, die unser Leben bestimmen. Ein Aufruf zur Veränderung in einer vernetzten, aber isolierten Gesellschaft.

"Urban Requiem" questions the digital world where we exist but don't truly live. A performance that urges us to recognize our role in the urban algorithm and rethink the scripts that control our lives. A call for change in a connected yet isolated society.
