Diese Woche bei GLS besuchen wir die Alte Nationalgalerie, erfahren mehr über die queere Geschichte Berlins und schauen uns die Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer an. Zum Abschluss machen wir eine Schifffahrt auf der Spree und erleben Berlin vom Wasser aus!
We’re exploring Berlin – exciting and diverse!
This week at GLS, we’ll visit the Alte Nationalgalerie, learn about Berlin’s queer history, and explore the Berlin Wall Memorial. To wrap it all up, we’ll enjoy a relaxing boat tour on the Spree, seeing Berlin from the water!

City Walk: Queere Berliner Geschichte

Berlin gilt als die „Stadt der Freiheit“, die jenen einen Platz gibt, die vermeintlich „anders“ sind. Untrennbar damit verbunden ist auch die Geschichte Berlins als Heimatort queerer Freiheitsbewegungen, Nachtclubs und Freiräume. Zu Fuß erkunden wir Orte queerer Berliner Stadtgeschichte und erfahren mehr darüber, wieso Berlin zu einem Zentrum der ersten Homosexuellenbewegung vor mehr als 100 Jahren wurde.
Berlin is considered the "city of freedom" that gives a place to those who are supposedly "different". Inextricably linked to this is Berlin's history as the home of queer freedom movements, nightclubs and free spaces. On foot we will explore places of queer Berlin history and learn more about why Berlin became a center of the first homosexual movement more than 100 years ago.

Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer/ Berlin Wall Memorial

Diese Gedenkstätte bietet einen tiefen Einblick in die Geschichte der Berliner Mauer und die Auswirkungen der deutschen Teilung. Mit Originalstücken der Mauer, Ausstellungen und einem Abschnitt des früheren Grenzverlaufs wird die Geschichte für die Besucher lebendig. Es ist ein wichtiger Ort, um sich mit der Vergangenheit auseinanderzusetzen und zu verstehen, wie die Mauer das Leben der Menschen in Berlin und ganz Deutschland beeinflusste.
This memorial provides a deep insight into the history of the Berlin Wall and the impact of the division of Germany. Featuring original pieces of the Wall, exhibitions, and a section of the former border line, the history comes to life for visitors. It’s a significant place to reflect on the past and understand how the Wall affected the lives of people in Berlin and across Germany.

Wir genießen eine spannende einstündige Schifffahrt durch das alte und neue Berlin!
Wir starten und enden zentral, direkt gegenüber vom Berliner Dom, nahe dem Hackeschen Markt und Alexanderplatz. Während der Fahrt hören wir eine Live-Moderation auf Deutsch und Englisch, die uns alles über die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt erzählt. Wir sehen Berlin aus einer ganz neuen Perspektive – das Schiff ist beheizt und bei schlechtem Wetter können wir durch das Glaspanoramadach trotzdem die Aussicht genießen. Getränke sowie Toiletten sind an Bord.
We enjoy an exciting one-hour boat tour through old and new Berlin!
We start and end in a central location, right across from the Berlin Cathedral, near Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz. During the ride, we listen to live commentary in German and English, telling us all about the city’s most important sights.
We see Berlin from a whole new perspective – the boat is heated, and even in bad weather, we can enjoy the view through the glass panoramic roof. Drinks and restrooms are available on board.
